Upgrade & Standards

BlockX Protocol Upgrade Roadmap: v10 to v12.

The published BlockX roadmap outlines versioned releases for network foundations, native x402 micropayments, spending policies, and machine identity.

Upgrade Details

Three upgrades, one path to the agentic economy.

Each release builds on the one before it.

v10.0.0

Foundation & ABCI 2.0

  • Migrates the ledger to Cosmos SDK v0.50 and CometBFT v0.38+.
  • Replaces the raw Ethermint modules with the next-generation Cosmos EVM core for dependable Solidity smart contract support.
  • Enables ABCI 2.0 dynamic validation loops, the base for the consensus-level features that follow.
v11.0.0

Micropayments Engine

  • Activates the x/x402 payment channel state machines.
  • Deploys EIP-712 signature verification pipelines for off-chain vouchers.
  • Recovers unused escrow automatically through closeAfter block timeouts.
v12.0.0

Vote Extensions & Sovereign Identity

  • Integrates CometBFT Vote Extensions into block proposal workflows.
  • Adds the x/policy spending engine, which enforces multi-block agent spend limits at consensus.
  • Launches the x/agentid registry, free for any valid machine.
Supported Standards

Standards built into the consensus layer.

These run inside consensus instead of on off-chain servers or simple smart contracts.

Payments
x402

The HTTP 402 payment standard, implemented natively in consensus: a server asks, the agent pays, and settlement is atomic.

Payments
MPP

Gas-free, off-chain EIP-712 payment vouchers that settle in a single step.

Payments
x403

A cross-chain payment bridge that works across IBC domains.

Payments
EIP-712

A structured signature schema used to authorize payments.

Payments
EIP-3009

Signed, nonce-protected transfer authorizations, so an agent can pay without holding gas.

Identity
ERC-8004

Machine-readable Agent Discovery Cards for on-chain identity and reputation.

Identity
DID

Each AgentRegistry entry resolves to a decentralized identifier bound to a key, a principal and a permission scope.

Trust
ERC-8126

Standardized validation that off-chain tasks were completed.

Control
ERC-8196

Spending policies: budget limits, allowlists and velocity caps.

Settlement
ERC-8183

Multi-party escrow that releases funds as milestones are verified.

Interop
IBC

Native cross-chain messaging and asset transfer to 80+ connected chains.
